Job description

Are you a hands-on finance leader who combines strong financial control with strategic and corporate finance expertise? Do you enjoy leading a team, improving processes and translating complex financial information into clear business decisions?

Conscious Group is looking for an experienced Director of Finance to take ownership of the financial engine of our growing hospitality group.

About Conscious Group

Conscious Group is a multi-brand hospitality group consisting of Conscious Hotels, Hotel V and several food and beverage concepts, including The Lobby, Stadscafé and Sticky Fingers.

With approximately €39 million in revenue, multiple legal entities and locations in Amsterdam and Utrecht, we are in an active phase of restructuring and expansion. As our Director of Finance, you will play a key role in building a strong financial foundation for our next phase of growth.

What will you do?

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will lead our finance and administration team and take end-to-end responsibility for financial reporting, planning, control, cash management and corporate finance.

This is a broad and influential role. You will operate at director level within the management team, while remaining close to both the numbers and the people behind them.

Your main responsibilities include:

Finance operations and team leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop the finance and administration team, including financial controllers, administrators, payroll colleagues and interns.

  • Set clear expectations, plan workloads and manage team performance without micromanaging.

  • Own the monthly closing and reporting cycle across all entities.

  • Ensure accurate and timely management reporting in USALI format.

  • Oversee payroll processing and compliance, working with external payroll and HR providers where required.

  • Maintain strong internal controls, clear segregation of duties and documented, audit-ready processes.

  • Act as the first point of escalation for operational finance and reporting matters.

  • Monitor capital expenditure and renovation projects against budget in cooperation with Operations.

  • Retain overall responsibility for our finance internship programme, supported by the Supervisor Operational Finance.

Financial planning and business insight

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, forecasting and rolling cash-flow forecasting across all entities and brands.

  • Develop meaningful KPI dashboards for hotel managers and Heads of Department.

  • Work with systems and data platforms such as Omniboost, Mews, Lightspeed and Visma.

  • Translate financial performance into clear insights and practical recommendations.

  • Help the business look ahead by identifying opportunities and risks early.

Cash and liquidity management

  • Maintain a rolling, multi-entity cash-flow forecast.

  • Actively manage liquidity across the group.

  • Identify potential liquidity risks and present realistic mitigating actions.

  • Optimise intercompany cash movements within the group structure.

Reporting, audit and tax

  • Oversee statutory and management reporting across all entities.

  • Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors.

  • Manage VAT, corporate income tax and local tax matters in cooperation with external tax advisers.

  • Support group-level tax efficiency while ensuring full compliance.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting principles and regulatory requirements in the Netherlands and future expansion markets, such as Belgium.

Shareholders, lenders and corporate finance

  • Prepare clear and accurate reporting for shareholders and the Investment Committee, including monthly EBITDA, rooms, F&B and cash-flow reporting.

  • Manage relationships with lending banks.

  • Monitor financial covenants, compliance requirements and covenant headroom.

  • Develop scenario-planning and stress-testing models covering base, upside and downside cases.

  • Evaluate leverage capacity, cost of capital, refinancing opportunities and other funding options.

  • Advise the CEO on capital structure and financing decisions.

  • Act as the financial lead during due diligence, transactions, new openings, acquisitions and potential disposals.

  • Provide financial support for investment proposals, shareholder resolutions and banking change-of-control processes.

Legal, compliance and risk

  • Coordinate legal and regulatory compliance across the group.

  • Identify financial and legal risks and develop appropriate mitigation measures.

  • Coordinate disputes, mediation and litigation in collaboration with external legal counsel.

  • Review commercial and procurement contracts for financial and legal risks before sign-off.

  • Engage specialist external advisers when necessary.

  • Help safeguard the group’s brands, intellectual property and contractual position.

Contract negotiations remain the responsibility of the relevant business owner, with Finance & Legal providing risk review and guidance.

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • You are an experienced and credible finance leader who is equally comfortable in a management meeting, a conversation with shareholders or lenders, and a hands-on working session with the finance team.

  • Experience working within a multi-entity, multi-brand or multi-location organisation.

  • Experience in hospitality, retail or a private-equity-backed environment is a strong advantage.

  • A proven ability to lead, coach and develop a finance and administration team.

  • Strong knowledge of monthly closing, payroll, financial reporting, consolidation and internal control.

  • Demonstrable corporate finance experience, including bank covenants, cash-flow forecasting, scenario modelling, leverage and capital structure.

  • Confidence working directly with shareholders, lenders and an Investment Committee.

  • Familiarity with USALI or another hospitality reporting framework is an advantage.

  • The ability to take ownership of legal and compliance matters at a coordinating level.

  • A hands-on approach and a willingness to stay close to the team and the numbers.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to make complex financial information understandable and actionable for non-finance stakeholders.

  • The authority and rigour required for this role, combined with an approachable and positive leadership style.

Your position within the organisation
